Two more fantastic brews from @microlecastor. On the left, L'Éclipse – A heavily dryhopped black IPA. Malty, dark chocolate, and coffee richness balanced with hoppy greatness and a little bite at the end. On the right their India Session Ale – Nice tropical nose. Nice piney hop flavors balanced with unique bread and honey flavor. Not what I expected, but I liked it. Big thank you to @philipnickerson for the hook up!!

Russian, previously Revolution, is @propellerbeer's Russian imperial stout. Chocolate and coffee with a little liquor on the nose. The aromas follow through to the taste with a full body. The 8ABV is slightly warm. Not sure if the recipe was updated with the brand, but it's tasting delicious right now. A great winter beer. Time to decorate!

I love you. No, I love your! Wait... I love "I Love You". That's it, I love "I Love You". "I Love You" is a collaboration from @2crowsbrewing and @worldteahouse. A damn fine brett saison with a twist. That twist being lemon verbena — a plant sometimes used for tea — and some lactobacillus. It's funky, lemony, and tart to the nose and palette. A little above light mouthfeel. A clean finish. Perfectly balanced.

A few bad apples? Nope. Nothing bad about these brews from @bad_apple_brewhouse. "Mind blowing-ly good beer", as their website says. The foreground: Mosaic Double IPA. A legendary DIPA in these parts. Brewed mostly with Mosaic hops, it's a tropical citrus hop bomb, crisp with the right amount of bitter in the finish. Lol closely at the logo. To top it off, it's brewed in honor of families affected by down syndrome. The background: Black & Tackle Russian Imperial Stout. Rich dark chocolate and strong coffee aromas that follow through in the bold taste. The slight alcohol on the nose is barely present in the mouth, instead the flavors hold the 9ABV in check with just the right amount of heat. A damn gem of a stout! PS - I'll stop these black background photos soon, I'm just diggin' 'em.

What!! What!! What!! Blackberry "Lambic" and Framboise from @propellerbeer. The legend is true! Both were tart and crisp with a dry finish. The Black was acidic and spicy to the nose and palette, where as the Framboise was more subtle with berry. Yet again got to try something out of my reach thanks to @barstillwell.

Well. Well. Well. Stillwell Four from @barstillwell, or more specifically @stillwellbrewing, is farmhouse ale aged in a sauvignon blanc barrel. A single sauvignon blanc barrel — no blending. This is how Stillwell put it — Chosen from a particularly well-balanced barrel, this beer was brewed on May 29th with oats, wheat and pils malt and a lower-than-usual (for us) IBU to encourage acidity and to make room for barrel tannins and wine character. A tangent — From amazing takeovers, to seemingly endless supplies of internationally renowned beers, to top notch eats, to their own incredible beers. Stillwell never disappoints. I believe the craft beer community of Nova Scotia can agree, Stillwell is amazing in every regard, and that it has helped promote and grow an amazing industry in this province. An industry that still has further up to go! Cheers!

DOA. Double Orange Ale from @unfilteredbrewing is a SMASH double IPA featuring... You guessed it, Citra hops! As those of us into the Nova Scotia craft beer scene know, @nashbomb kills the IPAs, and the DOA is one of the effing best! If you drank it, you know! Awesome citrus aromas and flavors, amazingly balanced with the hefty 7.5 ABV. And now, thanks to a limited canning run, @unfilteredbrewing is more portable and available than ever before!! PS — Unfiltered can and does far more than IPAs, and if you can get your hands on their barrel-aged sour, fucking grab it! . . . . . dipa ipa citra hops orange beer craftbeer craftbrew beer beerporn beerstagram beernerd beertography instabeer local halifax halifaxnoise halifaxnoisefood haligonia novascotia fanaticbeer canada exploreeast

The Brett Bitter from @microlecastor did not disappoint! Malty with a little horse blanket funk on the nose. The brett was milder to the taste, but really smoothed out and complimented the English bitter flavors on the palette. This one is definately worth a try. The label copy is also as interesting as the beer. — "English Bitter was a major beer style in the 19th century. Brewed and packaged very quickly, it was a type of “running beer”. Before the widespread adoption of stainless steel tanks, this beer almost certainly had Brettanomyces yeast in it. But there simply wasn’t enough time for Brett character to develop before it was served in pubs. What if the publican accidentally left a cask to age for a few months before serving..? You might have a beer that tastes just like this one." . . . . . beer craftbrew instabeer beergram esb englishbitter brettanomyces brett quebec beerporn canada fanaticbeer

First of my @microlecastor trio — Sanctuaire. An Abbey Tripel aged in red wine barrels with brettanomyces. Aromas of citrus, pepper, horse blanket funk, and little alcohol. All the aromas follow though to the pallet along with the addition of bready yeast and a balanced sweetness. The alcohol also present, but not discouraging. Finishes nice and dry as expected. This was one of the first barrel-aged beers I tried, and after all I've tried, it stays near the top of my list. . . . . . brettanomyces barrelaged tripel abbey redwine quebec canada beer craftbeer beerporn craftbrew beer beerstagram beernerd beertography instabeer beerart beergram fanaticbeer

It's the weekend. Have a pilsner. Have a Commons! Commons is @upstreetbrewing's take on the Czech pilsner. The pilsner is a great beer style that I've only recently started to dive into. At first I avoided the pilsner. Like many Nova Scotia craft beer drinkers I started with the hoppy IPAs, with the "if it's not hoppy it's not craft" mindset. I aligned the pilsner with macro breweries. Mahalo Parfait from @dunhambrasserie and @bellwoodsbeer is a session milkshake IPA with papaya and hibiscus, hopped with Vic Secret from Australia. This lacked the creamy mouth feel and haze I would expect in a milkshake IPA, though I'm no expert when it comes to the style. From the amount of particles floating in the bottom I suspect something went wrong, causing the proteins to lose their suspension. The flavors were decent, though not giving as much of a punch to the tastebuds as I would like. Dunham are one of my favorites, but this beer fell a little short for me. . . . . . . ipa milkshakeipa beer craftbeer craftbrew beer beerstagram beernerd beertography instabeer halifax novascotia
