Best seat in the house? If you were sitting snug in your car at the observation point overlooking the bridge, watching the lightning and saw a guy run into the wall of rain, then that was me. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Running in the open, metal rod in hand, right under a storm cell is a bad idea though. With lightning strikes every few seconds, I covered the distance between the OP and the base of the bridge in record time. Made it just in time for what seemed like a powerful cell to make way for something worse. For some reason, I had thought the base of the bridge would be a good place to be during lightning. Not so. On the plus side, dryish (no need to constantly clear the lens). On the negative side, very exposed to any lightning passing overhead. Would not recommend. thunder lightning blixtar longexposure storm stupidchoices thingstododuringbrexit holdmybeer lernacken utsiktsplatsen öresundsbron thebridge broen midsommar malmö sweden

Hands up anyone who has ever spent just under an hour in an elevator with smoke seeping in from the roof, where some catastrophic mechanical fault has just brought your merry journey to a hacking stop. Had the whole thing burst into flames right there and then, my last words may very well have been, "come on, you piece of shiii...". I think those were the words that jinxed it to a stop. Never tempt fate. So, there you are, stuck between floors. First call to the elevator company went something like this, "yes, hello. I'm stuck in your elevator and I think the roof is on fire. Can you send someone to get me out?" A few minutes later, "can you say anything about the ETA of your technician? No, I'm not outside the elevator, I'm inside. Yes. Stuck inside. Did I mention the smoke?" Third call went to the emergency services number. No answer. I had to laugh at that. Not even a call back after I hung up. I'm going to think someone else needed to talk to them more - which is true, in retrospect, as here I sit, pecking letters on a tiny keyboard. Turns out that the smoke was from the failed motor and overheating oil. So no real open flame. The object lesson for today - always carry a fire axe, or failing that, appreciate wide open spaces. keepcalm carryon wideangle nonsmoking longexposure wallart starburst nightlights cityscape crossroad malmö sweden

The traveller returns, with his bag of swag. Curious to see what 9 weeks have done to you all. For me, I just feel older. Lots of work and very little free time. Been months now since I actually touched my camera. Which also became apparent when I thought of doing some star trails photography. Only after taking some 160 fifteen second exposures (that would have required post processing, merging and general tinkering with), did it occur to me that I could have gotten much better results from 5 eight minute exposures, with a lot less effort. My only excuse being that fifteen seconds would have been the right setting had I been looking to avoid star trails in each separate exposure. So, right in a way, but so wrong in another. Unclear what or if I was thinking at that point. Which is always when a bag full of pyrotechics can be put to good use instead. Was a beautiful night under the stars though, and no doubt I made someone wonder what was going on further down the coast. walloftext tldr absentia traveller nightsky stars longexposure beaches distantlights fantasy cover inspiration shortstory fallout lightpainting haväng malmö sweden

Is there anything better than being up before the sun and getting to watch as night turns to day in that explosion of colours and light? No matter whether you've been up all night and you're staggering along on your way home or whether you've just abandoned your bed for a morning run, that burning ball of plasma we orbit at 108,000 km/h is just the ticket to remind us all that today, is yet another day closer to Spring. morningwalk sunrise doyouevenpraisethesun forestpath goodmorning longexposure malmö sweden

Behold! My brand new 2 dollar faux stainless steel whisk, moments before it melted in half and the upper part went sailing off into the night. Naturally, this was about 40 seconds into what I had planned on being at least more than a minute's worth of long exposures. Was there cursing? Youbetcha. I'm thinking there was probably more stainless steel in the plastic (and mummified in electric tape) handle than there was in the actual whisk. Things to do with half a whisk? Recycling seems apt, but of course, does it go in the plastic container or the metal container? Choices, choices. steelwool spinning longexposure sparks plans ofmiceandmen silhouette malmö sweden

To think of all the uses this site has been put to over the years, and now mine. As an echo in the wind. Was just looking over the news and saw an item about a police search in the village of klagshamn last night. The details, someone had seen someone else using a flashlight on a public beach at night. For whatever reason, this then blossomed into a large scale search for people smugglers. Because that seems a reasonable assumption to make, right? Flashlights on a beach at night, what else could it be? Especially in southern Sweden, where night time beach incursions are the norm. Now, I have an alibi, but I'm thinking it was probably one of you other long exposure night time photographers or light painters out there. In four words or less, explain why your activities don't conform to the behavioural expectations of someone who has been watching way too much television. photounrelated evildead shortstory fantasy inspiration smoke flash longexposure malmö sweden

Ever find yourself explaining why you're taking a certain photo to random passers-by who stop and question what you're doing? Especially for a photo like this. People will appear as out of nowhere and to the "normal" person, this qualifies as odd behaviour that must somehow be rationally explained. He must be making a documentary. "No, no. I'm taking photos of the stairs." "The stairs?!" Which is where they'll approach the stairs and look down them for a few seconds, like they've never really seen stairs before. "Yes, those." The view down Engelbrektsgatan in Malmö. Would it surprise anyone to know that Malmö's local politicians during the 1970's wanted to tear these buildings down so the street could be widened into a bus lane, complete with square concrete parking buildings?
