Why You’re Not Getting Results In The Gym: 1. You haven’t been on your program long enough. Relax and stay the course. Don’t expect to see bigger guns, tighter glutes or a smaller belly until you’ve been consistently and progressively training for at least 4 to 6 weeks. 2. You’re on the wrong program: Matching the program to your individual fitness goals is key to getting the results you want in a reasonable amount of time. Don’t know where to start? Click the link in my bio. 3. You’re not eating the right food. You’ve all heard the phrase ‘you can’t out train a bad diet’. It’s true. Your body needs lean protein, healthy fats, lots of vitamins, minerals and fibre and a bit of starchy carbohydrate to function well while you’re training as well as to translate that training into physical change. 4. You’re lifting too often. Beware, when it comes to weight training, there IS too much of a good thing. Muscle fibres need time to rest and repair between workouts. That’s when growth occurs. Why do we need Carbs? Before you get any crazy ideas in your head, yes you DO need carbs! 1. BALANCE: Carbs are NOT the enemy! Ignorance is the enemy. And life is all about balance. Carbohydrates are one of the three macronutrients, along with protein and fat. From a scientific standpoint, carbs are used for energy; both short and long-term. They are also essential for brain activity. When you eat carbs, they turn to glycogen, which the brain relies on for proper function. 2. CARBS AND EXERCISE: A lack of carbs will hinder your exercise performance. When carbs are consumed, they are either used for immediate energy or stored in the liver and muscles. The very same muscles that are used to pound out set after set of heavy reps in your split routines. 3. GOOD CARB SOURCES: There is definitely a difference between good and bad carbs. Your goal is to only consume quality carbs. These would be whole grains like oatmeal, quinoa, barley and wheat berries, as well as beans, fruits, sweet potatoes and yams. These are high in fiber, various vitamins, nutrients and they have a moderate amount of protein. You will often hear these referred to as complex carbs. The ugly carbs, also known as simple carbs consist of cookies, cakes, pastries, candy bars, sugary drinks and white flour products. They get digested really quickly and are basically bankrupt in the nutrient category. 4. TIMING YOUR CARBS: Pre-workout carb storage and post-workout feedings. The best approach is to eat small, balanced meals every few hours throughout the day. Importance of good posture: Good posture means that your joints are in proper alignment from head to toe. This means you don’t have rounded shoulders, a slumped head, a severely curved back or a lateral tip in your upper body. In layman’s terms, you should have neutral alignment. If you’re rounded, twisted, and literally bent out of shape, a number of bad things can happen. First and foremost, your organs can get monkeyed up. Every function, from breathing to circulation to sitting on a toilet, can become compromised. That’s no way to live. Your performance on the gym floor isn’t without worry either. If you’re misaligned, you’ll be robbing yourself of quality workouts. You won’t be able to move weights with grace and ease, and you won’t be able to hoist maximum resistances. You can also end up being in pain while you work out and long after. If you take fitness seriously, then you should take your posture just as seriously. Even if your posture isn’t very good, you have nothing to fear. You can undo the damage you’ve done and correct the imbalances you’ve created.
