Eric Stephen Martin lives and breathes many different sounds by mixing the voice of soul with the softness of folk guitar and country/blues influences. Growing up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia he started writing songs at the age of 13. Eric attended the The Gordie Sampson Songcamp in 2015, where he wrote with many established Nova Scotian songwriters, as well as high-profile writers from Nashville, TN. Eric was then invited back to attend the The Gordie Sampson Songcamp in 2016 as a returning writer. Within the past few years Eric has acquired musical experience by supporting and playing alongside many different artists in the east coast music industry such as Carleton Stone, Kim Harris, and Joel Plaskett. His self-titled EP, released in 2014, was recorded at the New Scotland Yard Studio in Dartmouth. Eric has released a total of three independent EP’s (2012, 2014, 2015). Come warm up with us and enjoy the musical stylings of one of Halifax’s hottest up and coming musicians.

March 7, 2017 - March 7, 2017 - 6:00 pm (B3J 1W6 Halifax Canada) Folks are invited to a facilitated community discussion about building cultures of care within artistic and community based spaces. Although we participate and contribute to artistic and activist spaces, we are no less inclined to perpetuate and mimic systems of power, domination, social elitism, and enact harm. This discussion will be centred around building new guidelines and expectations for future Khyber events, brainstorming ways that the space can be more accessible to survivor/victims, discussing next steps in creating a survivor/victim centred mandate and policy, and working to hold safer space. We hope that this dialogue can catalyze further personal and community work to imagine safety in anti oppressive ways, to create community accountability options, to hold a more welcoming and safer space, and to resist protecting perpetrators and alienating survivor/victims. The Khyber acknowledges that sexualized violence is gender justice issue that disproportionately affects trans women, Two Spirit people, trans feminine people, non binary femmes, femmes of all genders, and cis women. The Khyber acknowledges that sexualized violence is not only a white cis women’s reality and works to hold an intersectional, anti oppressive, anti racist analysis while working to combat rape culture. This event prioritizes survivor/victims. You do not need to be actively involved with The Khyber to attend, this event is open to anybody who has interest in Khyber, past and current volunteers/board members, folks who attend Khyber events, folks who want to attend Khyber events, etc… This event is a collaborative effort between members of The Khyber community, Avalon, and South House and will be facilitated by: Carmella Farahbakhsh, Frank Heimpel, Nathan Doucet, and Hannah Guinan. Access Notes: The main entrance to the space is up 2-steps from the sidewalk on Hollis St., however there is the mall entrance further down the block outside on the same street is always open during the day can be used for ground level entry. There is not a button to press on the door for it to open automatically but there will be si

March 4, 2017 - March 4, 2017 - 12:00 pm (B3J 2W5 Halifax Canada) Support Special Olympics Nova Scotia in the COOLEST way possible! Join us on March 4th as we plunge into the icy waters of a man made pool just for our BRRR-AVE plungers. The first of its kind in the city, it is not the first of its kind for the LETR and Special Olympics. Our concept is simple – take the DARE if you are brave enough and register to be one of our COOLEST fans on March 4th. Grab your co-workers and make a team or brave out the day alongside our Special Olympics athletes. Not BRRR-AVE enough to plunge – pay your bail (get the Law Enforcement pun?) and be released from jumping. But hey, our plungers would still love to have you come to Grand Parade at Noon as the cannons fire to watch them plunge. Let’s creat a Social Media frenzy together! Make your Facebook video accepting or decling the plunge DARE and tag five friends. Together we will make our own HRM challenge. Wanna see what an LETR Plunge looks like? Have a look at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch? We look foward to having you join us for the 1st Annual LETR Polar Plunge at Parade Square on March 4th.

If you missed them last year, now’s your chance to see the amazing father-son duo of Eddie Bullen and Quincy Bullen – also known as the Dueling Pianos – who are back at Pier 21 for an encore performance! A Dueling Pianos show is when piano players participate in a “duel” through music. Its history comes from the ragtime tradition when two players would take turns singing songs requested by the audience, competing to see who could play better and faster. Based in Toronto with roots in Grenada, the Bullens engage their audience with an inspiring message of seeking and attaining excellence as they perform a variety of musical genres, including jazz and contemporary music. The duo’s musical arrangements are highlighted by interesting and amusing commentary about their own family relationship and their unique family history. It’s going to be quite the show: two grand pianos will be positioned in the middle of Kenneth C. Rowe Hall with seating surrounding the performers, creating an intimate and engaging audience venue. The event is FREE. A celebraton of Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation, the show is presented in English by Thunder Dome Sounds and is part of the TD Black History Month series. When: March 2, 2017 Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Location: Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 Cost: FREE

Family Friendly Haunted House Located at 183 Richardson Drive, Fall River For most of the year 183 Richardson Drive, Fall River appears to be just another house on the street.  But each Halloween, for some strange reason, those unhappy with their final resting place awaken and take over the property.  The graveyard, haunted forest, ghosts, witches, vampires, zombies, skeletons, spiders, snakes, giant rats and bears arrive to haunt, annoy and scare.  And miraculously, once Halloween is over, the horror ends and all returns to normal. Let’s show them we are not scared! The more people that arrive, the less power they have over us….. Tonight at 9 p.m. Comedy At The Carleton – Steve Patterson + Jay Malone We LOVE Comedy at The Carleton, so we’re very, very happy to be able to announce that the host of CBC’s The Debaters, Steve Patterson will be headlining our place on Wednesday, September 14th after his book launch at the Halifax Central Library. The very funny Jay Malone will warm up for Steve. Show time is 9 PM and tickets are only $20! Steve is, of course, a very funny man and generally makes his living by using words that come out of his mouth. However, it also turns out that words come out of his fingers because he’s written a book. A very funny book that will be for sale at his Carleton show. You should buy one. And get Steve to sign it for you. After you’ve laughed at the words that came out of his mouth during the show… halifax novascotia
