Bonsoir mes amies 🌟 Today was back & abs day so here’s a few cable back exercises you guys can try on your next pull day! If I’m being honest, I do find upper body training a LOT more tedious than lower body/cardio just because I think there are fewer exercises you can do and it never feels quite as challenging! So because of this, I always try to mix up the way I do a standard upper body exercise (lat pulldown/straight arm pulldown etc) and I also try and incorporate different types of sets for example today I did a killer drop set on the seated row machine which set my lats on FIYAH 🔥 So if you guys are finding any parts of your training a tad boring, don’t be afraid to change it up a tad, I always get inspired from scrolling through Instagram and trying out new exercises people post, so give it a go! Happy Sunday guys and gals, who’s had a good weekend? I definitely have after spending it with my pals and hittin up a very fun event last night called soultrain in Norwich, if you’re in the area when it’s on I really recommend going! Currently cosying on down to the sound of David Attenborough’s lovely soothing voice whilst learning about the Big Blue! Happy Saturday beauts!! It’s the weekend and I’m spending it in Norwich with my uni pals, heading out to soultrain tonight with one of my old friends which I’m so excited for!! Started today with a spot of cardio which I was NOT in the mood for whatsoever but made me feel soooooo much better after so I’m happy that I forced my little butt to walk to the gym, popped some YouTube videos on and just sweated it out for 45 minutes! Anyway here’s a booty circuit for you guys to add on to the end of a leg day or an upper body day if you’re looking for some extra booty burn to really consolidate that growth! It goes as follows: ⚡️30 reps of resistance band kneeling squats ⚡️20 reps of exercise ball hip ups ⚡️20 reps of exercise ball frog kicks ⚡️AMRAP kneel to squat jump Repeat this as many times as you like for the ultimate booty burn! As you can see, I stick to high rep ranges for this glute finisher after doing lower rep, heavier training during my leg session before just so I can stimulate both those slow-twitch muscle fibre and the fast-twitch!! PARTNER WORKOUT 👯👯👯 Hit up some fab cardio today with my babe @chloe_rowlatt and although it was haaaaaard work, it was so nice to work out with someone cos it kept me motivated!! So if you fancy heading to the gym with a friend and wanna work together to get a sweat on, then give these moves a goooooo!! Good evening my darls!!! How’s everyone’s Monday? I started mine with a fabbbbbby leg sesh bright and early this AM which prepped me for the day! Have to say I didn’t sleep very well last night after sleeping for the majority of Sunday so feeling a bit rough now so will be an early night for me after catching up on blueplanet 🐳 Anyone else just love the sound of David Attenborough’s voice? Anyway, on a side note, in the gym today I managed to get on one of the squat racks as I was in the gym for opening and a couple of girls got there a bit later and literally waited by my side for about 20 minutes for me to finish so they could hop on! I’m all for getting your squats/lunges/deadlifts in but there really are so many variations to all these exercises that you shouldn’t have to use up 20 minutes of your day waiting for a squat rack! I’m gonna put together a video of variations soon so people know what else they can do if the squat rack is busy like it ALWAYS is in my gym unless you’re there before opening (like me lol) so keep yo eyes peeled guys! Hello my loves 💖 I greet you from my bed which I haven’t left all day because I’m currently nursing the worst hangover known to man 😷 So to make myself feel better about myself, I bring you this cardio circuit I did yesterday after my upper body session! Upper body doesn’t make me sweat quite like a lower body session so I always like to incorporate some HIIT just to get a sweat on cos then I know I’ve really finished myself off! IT’S THE WEEKEND 🎉🎉🎉 Treated myself to a lovely lie in this morning after being up at 6am most days this week to get my workouts in before unaaaay 💪🏽 Sometimes you’ve gotta make time to train, I know life can be soooooo busy trying to balance everything but by getting up just 1 hour earlier than I would otherwise means I can get a training session done before I even start my day properly!! Early mornings can seem soooooo awful but honestly after training I feel like I have so much energy for the rest of the morning rather than turning up to lectures feeling like a zombie 💀 Soooooo if you can manage to drag yourself out of bed in the morning I do recommend it cos then it leaves you with the rest of the day to get your shit sorrrrrted 👌🏽 Anyway I hope everyone’s having a lovely Saturday, I’m about to get out of bed lol and do a bit of uni work before heading to the gym for an upper body sesh! Hey hey hey 🌟🌟🌟 I hope everyone’s having a fab, chilled out Sunday after a fun-filled weekend!! I’m back working for the weekend so am trying to use this time productively to catch up on work and I managed to squeeze in an at home cardio and abs session earlier after a beautiful nights sleep with that extra hour in bed, just what I needed after so many weeks of fresherlife and not much sleep 😴 Sometimes all you need is REST and that might not even be rest from the gym, just rest from life in general, for example, I needed a rest from student life and drinking too many g&ts (lol can’t help myself) but sometimes you might need a rest from revision, a rest from counting calories or tracking macros or a rest from pushing your body to its limit! We’re not robots so we do get fatigued if we don’t allow ourselves time to rest and recover so don’t forget this guys!! Never skip rest day, it’s probably the most important day of the week and if need be take more than one!! Anyway have a lovely Sunday my petals, rest away and get prepped for another week of smashing goals!! Happy hump day my beauts!! Didn't quite make it to the gym today to celebrate this glorious hump day as I was out the night before with my physio pals 🎉 But yesterday I did a fab smith machine only leg workout courtesy of @meggan_fit_music which was fab and I could really really feel it in my glutes which is what we like!!!! I've really managed to train myself to be much more glute dominant in my exercises and I really put it down to foot placement - I don't think it's the same for everyone so I really recommend playing around with different foot placements until you can feel it in your glutes and posterior chain! For me keeping my feet further out in front of me, slightly wider and toes pointing outwards helps to target this area more so than my quads so that's what I do on booty days! Hey hey hey 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 Happy Tuesday my loves, I am one sleepy bunny today, haven't really been able to keep my eyes open all day so just wanna naaaap but I'm meant to be going out on the toon again fresherlife but SERIOUSLY I need some chill time!! Going to the gym at half 6 is all well and good when you're well rested but I feel like I might have overdone it recently with the going out and training and learning so I do need a bit of rest time I think! Remember always listen to your body pals and take some time out if you're feeling fatigued and can't keep your eyes open throughout the day!! Hellooooo again finally!! I was brave enough to whip out the old tripod today to film my upper body session for you guys!! I feel like me filming myself in a new gym is kind of the same feeling you get when you're a newbie working out in the weights section of the gym for the first time or something like that sooooo I completely get it when you're too scared to do something! I hit up an upper body sesh bright early this morning before my lectures and primarily focused on BACK 💪🏽 I've missed my back-focused workouts because I love feeling and seeing the lats and reverse delts at work, soooooo satisfying 👀 So I'm gonna add back in a back day to my training schedule cos I keep it nice and flexible and always workout what I wanna workout cos that's what keeps me motivated!! Don't go to the gym dreading your session, just keep moving guys! If you wanna go and simply skip rope for 30 minutes, bloody do it! If you wanna go and deadlift the entire time, bloody do it! HAPPY MONDAY 🌞🌞🌞 Riiiiiight its about time I get back into the laurenjfitness lifestyle because my poor body and liver need a breeeeaaaaak from all the pardiiies 🎉 Had such a fab weekend with all my pals from home in Manchester celebrating people's birthdays but now it's Monday, a new week and new priorities! Hit up a HARD HARD HARD leg session this morning after a dreamy nights sleep and omg I have lost control of my legs now woooo 😬 There's only 2 squat racks in my uni gym and they are v hard to come by so I had to improvise by using the cable machine, pre-weighted bars, dumbbells and the leg extension machine to get in my squats, lunges and hip thrusts and I swear to you this worked just as well! A busy gym doesn't mean you can't get your workout in, just means you have to be a bit more creative! Anyway have a fab Monday my beauts, I will be sure to get some workout footage for you throughout the week, also my physio course is getting into full swing this week so I'm really excited!! Sorry for the non-fitness related post, just wanted to show you guys how I've been spending most of my evenings (thinking I'm a legend, having a fair few g&ts and dancing the night away 💃🏽) As you can see fitness really has taken a backseat! I mean I managed to get to the gym over the weekend and Monday and Tuesday morn so I am sitting it in where I can but I'm a fresher again so I gotta get involved with all the fresher activities ya know! Don't be afraid to fall out of your normal routine because muscle memory is definitely a thing and if you are consistent through the year, a few weeks here and there of fun and pardddddy won't change a thing! I'm lucky because I've been able to speed up my metabolism by eating enough to feed my activity levels and being consistent with my training so I can afford to have one too many nights like this one! Remember this is a lifestyle and not a diet my beauts so treat it like that and don't restrict yourself! Anyway I'm having a fabulous time at my new uni and I'm really excited to start more course content next week to become a physio! HELLO AGAIN!! I finally bring you a long-awaited workout vid in my new uni gym! Managed to drag myself there at half 6 these last 2 mornings because laurenjfitness is back to graftlife 😬 Well only for a couple of days because I'm about to start another week of going out so the gym will once again have to take a backseat BUT at least I know I can get back into the swing of things pretty easily when I put my mind to it! Anyway if you fancy giving these 2 trisets a go on your next upper day, they went as follows: Triset 1 x4: ⚡️10x laying plate press ⚡️10x tricep press to tricep extension ⚡️10x rotating DB press Triset 2 x4: ⚡️6x DB front to lat raise with rotations ⚡️10x Arnold press ⚡️8x steering wheels So these two primarily work the chest/tris and shoulders!! I also added another one which worked a bit of back and arms just to get the whole upper body working and then added on some HIIT and abs to really finish me off - it felt goooood and was a fun workout so give it a go if you get the chance my lovelies! Hello my beauties!!!! Sorry for being ridiculously MIA for this past week - I moved into UEA on Saturday and it's been such a whirlwind week ever since ⚡️Been out every night bar one making loads of new pals and just having a fab time - also been in 9am lectures everyday so I'm definitely lacking in sleep so I think tonight is the night I finally get a full nights sleep (but who knows because I'm very easily persuaded 🎉) In other news, I finally made it to the gym here on campus and did a lil leg workout with some of my physio pals which was definitely needed!! This whole week I've been looking in the mirror thinking oh Loz you've lost your gains, or oh Loz you're not looking very lean but then I tell myself it's a mental game - if you feel slobby in yourself, your mind will tell you that you look like a slob when actually you look near enough the same! Gains and health will always be there but making memories comes first so that's where my priorities lie at the moment! TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY 🌞 Now there's not a big physical difference between these 2 pictures, but there is a big difference between my knowledge of training and how to train to suit me! Girl on the left did endless amounts of cardio, ate what she wanted but didn't see the results she wanted to see, fast forward to now, I train how I want (primarily weight lifting) and aim to be HEALTHY rather than aiming for aesthetic differences which in turn has led to physical changes - I've learned how I can shape my body to look the way I want it to without following fad diets or ridiculous exercise regimes - granted I go to the gym a lot, but that's because I love it and it makes me happy 🌟These changes have developed over 2-3 years and I've still got a lot to learn and much more I can do because fitness isn't an end destination, it's a lifestyle so don't get disheartened if you don't see the results you want to see in a certain time frame - just keep moving and stay healthy and find something that works for you! UPPER BODY LIMITED EQUIPMENT WORKOUT ⚡️Here's a lil compilation of exercises that I threw together to work the whole body whilst I was in the make-shift gym in France! Perfect if you've only got limited equipment and no fancy machines to use, and also perfect if you don't have many gym sessions in the week to split up your upper body sessions and just wanna do it all in one go! A lot of volume work for you again so spikes the heart rate to burn those extra cals too! ITS FRIDAY YAAAAAS 👌🏽 Only 1 week to go before I start a new chapter of my life studying to become a Physiotherapist so just trying to get my life organised at the moment because I'm about to do a tour of the UK 🙈 Off to Birmingham tomorrow, then up to Manchester, then over to Leeds and then down to Norwich for Saturday to move into my new uni accommodation! It's all go and I just feel quite sleeeeepy haha, not ready for all this driiiiving I've got ahead of me! That being said, I highly doubt I'll find any time to hit the gym, so I got myself a day pass to pure gym down here today and hit up a MASSIVE leg session to kill me off for a while because I know my gym routine will 100% be out of sync for the next couple of weeks, but that's fine cos LIFE, ya know 😏 I did a bit of GVT because not only does it properly properly fatigue those muscles, it also spikes that heart rate so acts as a bit of HIIT training too! I did 10 sets of 10 squats followed by 10 sets of 10 sumo deadlifts and boooooy was I pooped after that! I then went on to do some volume focused supersets to really finish me off and now I can't walk, how wonderful 😊 I secretly like the pain though 😂 Anyway have a lovely evening petals, whatever you're up to! LEG PLYOMETRIC CIRCUIT 💪🏽 If you're like me and haven't got the facility to lift heavy, then why not try out this VERY DIFFICULT leg plyo circuit - high volume exercises keep your heart rate high for ultimate fat burn and muscle fatigue to grow those muscles and burn those calories! It also gives you the BEST rush of endorphins I've felt in agggeeeees because it spikes your heart rate and keeps it there!! Really recommend this one for those of you with limited equipment - most exercises can be altered depending on the equipment you have available and most can be done with no weight too! I'm having a chilled one minus the horrific leg plyo workout I just put myself through 💦💦 Limited equipment means upping the anti by adding in exercises with a higher intensity to fatigue the muscles and get a sweat on, and I can bloody tell ya I did just that! SUNDAY FUNDAY 🎉🎉 Well not for me cos I'm at work BUT it's my last weekend of work today before I head off to see some friends, go to France to see family and then prepare for a lot of partying as I start uni again (and go to Leeds freshers beforehand cos I can't stay away 🙈) Due to all this moving about over the next month, today was my last proper session in a fully equipped gym so I made the most of it and hit up a full body session - most of my workouts from now on will be at home or limited equipment workouts so will be more volume based and plyometric/callisthenics style so gonna start getting creative again! I think it's good to mix it up though and work on other aspects of training whether that be more strength based training or cardio - body needs a bit of both!! Anyway keep your eyes peeled for that full body workout cos I filmed it and will get it up for you guys soon! UPPAAA BODAAAAY WEEERKKKK 💪🏽 Here's a chest superset and a back superset you guys can add to your next upper day - as I said in a previous post, when I do upper body at the mo, I'm just throwing in a bit of everything because I tend to get a bit bored of sticking to one area for a WHOLE session so this way it keeps things fun! As you can probably tell by the struggggggs, chest is probably my weakest area because I neglect it, still feel a bit nervy under the barbell but I'll get practicing and hopefully my form/depth will improve in the next few weeks! I do love filming myself sometimes because you can really see what you need to work on and how you've improved!
