NOURISH BOWL Summer edition🙌🏼🌿🌞 what are your favourite Summer meals?? There’s nothing more typical to Western Australia summers than barbecues🙏🏼 And my Dad recently bought a new barbecue (powered by @originenergy natural green gas🌱) so we’ve been having backyard BBQ dinners almost every night when the sun’s shining ~ meaning I’ve been cooking all my usual meals on the barbecue instead + it’s the BEST for adding extra flavour to veggies or veggie burgers⚡️⚡️ . I lovee pretty food🌸✨ who else feels the same?? When I make meals that are bright and bursting with colour, I feel so happy + excited to get to eat it afterwards! Adding as much colourful ingredients to your meals is definitely KEY in staying motivated with nourishing your body with healthy foods🙌🏼⚡️⚡️ Bonus points is that colourful foods usually taste amazing too😛 The star pretty ingredient in this bowl are my favourite @organicburst Tibetan goji berries, adding that bright splash of PINK (and a whole lot of happy!) to all of my smoothie bowls lately💗🍓 . I based my self worth of what others thought of me to the extent that I barely took part in conversations because I was too afraid others would think I say is stupid or boring. PEACE starts on your plate✨🌻💜 It starts with your actions, what you choose to stand up for + put your money towards. I haven’t talked about the ethical side of veganism on here for a while because I never want to be that ‘preachy’ vegan which in my experience, turns more people away than inspires them towards veganism...which is the exact opposite of my aim. But after watching @jamesaspey Instagram story this morning, I just have to talk about this. Every single day, billions of animals are abused, tortured and killed for us. They live their short lives in dirty, dark confined spaces, where they are treated as objects + ‘fattened up’ as quickly as possible before being transported to their deaths. . Why, in this day and age where it is so easy, accessible and affordable to live and THRIVE on a plant based diet, are we still supporting this? There is no ‘humane’ way to kill another being who doesn’t want to be killed. Especially not so our taste buds can have a few minutes of pleasure. I know many people feel like one person doesn’t make a difference, but YOU DO🌟 And together, those one persons make up the whole of humanity. It takes change to bring about change, and any SINGLE little positive act of kindness + compassion is a great one!🙌🏼 . FOOD IS FUEL⚡️🙏🏼🌿 most people think it’s exercise and weight training that makes your muscles stronger. This is true to some extent, but also not at all... Exercise is the stimulus which BREAKS DOWN your muscles. Then, with rest and recovery, and plenty of wholesome food that provides the energy, amino acids + micronutrients needed, those muscles are rebuilt. STRONGER than before🌟💪🏼 Without adequate energy intake (not just protein!), it literally is impossible to build or maintain muscle, so if you’re putting all that hard work + effort into your workouts, make sure you’re nourishing your bod enough to get the benefits you deserve💛 . 21 years around the sun today🌞✨ Although age is just a number we invented, time really does fly by so fast. And sounds cliche, but one of the most important lessons I’ve learnt is: LIVE IN THE NOW🌻 . Worries and fears exist only when we are consumed by the past or focused on the future. Spending our time thinking about these means you miss the only moment that truly exists...the present. So often I catch myself getting sad or frustrated at myself for all the time, energy + opportunities I wasted in the past due to being consumed by an eating disorder. I missed out on 95% of my teenage years to remain in perfect control of my food, weight + exercise, avoiding every situation that might have resulted in the opposite. Instead of living in regret, but never really getting anywhere, I know the only way to get to the place you want is by asking yourself: ‘Will this help me grow and become my best self?’🙏🏼 . 🌟There is SO much more to life than trying to reach perfection and control I never got.🌟 . - There is family and friends, magical experiences, spontaneous adventures and uplifting conversations. - There is learning from mistakes, growing and becoming a better version of yourself. - There is beach picnics, unplanned snacks and celebratory birthday dinners. I now work out to build strength, empowerment and incredible friendships, instead of to burn myself to the ground. I’ve learnt to eat to nourish my body, mind + soul, not starve myself. I’m learning to accept and love my body for all it does for me, instead of despise and punish it non-stop. I’m so far from where I’d like to be + it’s a tough journey, but man I’ve come far. And for that I’m proud and forever grateful. . Anyway, if you take ONE thing from this (very long) post, let it be this: Always work towards your goals but don’t forget to enjoy the moment too. SUSHI BURRITO👅🍙🌿✨ yes or no?? CREATE good habits🌞✨ what are some of your daily habits?? Creating a daily routine for myself is something I’ve come to value so highly🙏🏼 having things I do almost every single day has done wonders for both my physical + mental health, helping me feel happier, less stressed and SO much more productive. . 💛Here are a few of MY DAILY HABITS: . - GET UP EARLY. I love getting up with the sun and feel like I get so much more out of my day. Don’t forget to go to bed at a decent time too though😉 - WALK OUT IN NATURE. I take Luna for a long (or short) walk at the beach or even just around the neighbourhood to get some fresh air, vitamin D + plenty of good vibes - GET MOVING. Getting my heart pumping with some exercise has transformed my mood + makes me feel amazing⚡️ - READ SOMETHING INTERESTING. A good book, journal articles, even a podcast. Always collecting knowledge + learning knew things🤗 - MAKE YOUR BED. Every day without fail. I’m not kidding! - MOISTURISE. Soft healthy skin makes me feel so much better about myself, plus it’ll prevent wrinkles in the long run so I’m definitely sticking with this one👌🏼 - DAILY GREENS. I like to make sure I have a huge handful of raw veggies (not just greens actually) at both lunch + dinner. I’ve actually done this for as long as I can remember and a meal without a salad just doesn’t feel like a meal🙈🌿 . There’s lots more little things I do and these make me happy + feel like myself. NOURISH TO FLOURISH✨💜 I remember just a couple of years ago, eating brought about only emotions of fear, guilt + disgust for me. I avoided it as much as I possibly could, questioned + scrutinised every single ingredient of every food, and every bite was a struggle. For me, the key to gaining a much healthier relationship with food was too start appreciating food + all it does for me and body🙏🏼🌿 🌞 It gives me energy, provides my cells with fuel, keeps my hair, skin + nails healthy, balances my mood, powers my brain. It keeps me alive. Through that I could finally start enjoying the tastes, textures and everything else about food again. For I KNEW the food I chose to eat wasn’t harming the planet + was doing nothing but GOOD. RANT TIME: It actually pains me the amount of people that class fruit as ‘sugar’. Enough of that please! Fruit. Is. Not. Sugar.🤦🏼‍♀️ Any food, (such as refined sugars, oils, processed foods etc) that are extracted from their whole forms, stripped of nutrients and turned into a food-like product isn’t great for you. But fruit is grown from the ground in the perfect package that Mother Nature intended for us ~ full of fibre, water, phytonutrients, minerals, vitamins, protein and yes, sugar too🌟 In this package, our bodies know how to properly digest and metabolise foods to prevent spikes in blood sugar levels + insulin release, and bring a whole range of health BENEFITS + an amazing source of energy and nutrients to our bodies🙏🏼🌿 PLEASE don’t place fruit in the same box as any sort of processed sugars. REAL TALK: I hated this photo when I saw it and I wasn’t going to post it. My finger was already on the button to delete it...I thought my thighs looked huge and my face round as ever. I can’t stand photos of myself and often struggle looking in the mirror or seeing my reflection. Struggling with body dysmorphia for many years my mind doesn’t allow my eyes to see myself for what I truly am and I know so many others struggle with the same thing. It’s sad. What I love about this photo are the colours of the ocean, the memories it holds and how happy + free I was in the moment✨🙏🏼 Why do we judge and critique ourselves like this? Why do we base our entire self worth on outer appearances? We do have these perfect ideals and expectations of ourselves?
