Raise your hand if you’ve ever compared yourself to anyone else? Has that ever brought anything positive, or did it make you feel worse? Now raise your hand if you’ve ever punished yourself or did certain things just to look a certain way? I know I have. To be perfect. Toned. Skinnier. Taller. . I was convinced that being these things would make me happy, they would solve all of my problems. Every ounce of my self worth was dependent on what I looked like, what I weighed, how many calories I ate, how many calories I burnt. And all my energy went into controlling these things in order to reach ‘perfection’. Nothing else matter anymore. I lost my friends, missed out on experiences, my family claimed they didn’t know me anymore. . In reality, the REAL problem was not the way I looked at all, but only the thoughts I had toward my looks. In reality, NO ONE cares about your weight or how many calories you eat. They value you for your kindness, your liveliness, the jokes you tell, the light you bring into their lives🌻💫 I’ve learnt to accept my imperfections, my square-shaped face, my insulin pump, my long limbs, the fact my eyes squint when I smile. I still get frustrated and self critical over these things, but I’ve learnt not to let them cause me to start doing things that are self destructive. . So here is a photo of me when I was genuinely HAPPY. But I hated this photo. When I saw the photos from this afternoon, I cried, because I thought I looked so ugly. I am not ugly, I am ME💛 I choose to put my energy towards being healthy, strong and accepting of myself and others. You can’t actually ‘detox’ or cleanse your body, because it’s already doing that every minute of the day thanks to your liver😉 There’s no need to go on a juice cleanse or follow a restrictive diet in order to detox. These things may be helpful in some circumstances but they can also cause a lot of unnecessary stress on the body if not done properly🙏🏼 . What you CAN do is help support your liver in detoxing your body! This way, I always have some ready-to-eat food like baked veggies, rice, chilli, dahl, hummus, (whatever I chose to make), in the fridge when lunch time rolls around. Throw that in a bowl, add a few different coloured fresh veggies + avocado, and squeeze on some lemon ~ you have yourself the perfect Buddha bowl lunch⚡️⚡️👅 . Our society needs to learn to look past somebody’s outer shell and see the person, the soul, that is inside🌻🌈 Too much focus lies on appearances, body shape, weight, whether we are perfectly toned and what we wear. . I used to ask myself HOW ON EARTH I could ever compete with all these beautiful, perfect girls on social media and even real life? What is wrong with me that I don’t look like that? I put all this effort and energy into trying to do everything perfect. Controlling my diet to the extremes, exercising hours each day, beating myself up with unkind thoughts. . But the real answer is, I don’t have to. No matter how much time, effort and energy we put into trying to look like someone else, that goal is unachievable. WHY? Because we are not that person. You can never embrace yourself to the fullest and become the best version of yourself if you are always trying to be and look like someone else. . I used to get so down knowing I didn’t look a certain way, but really how silly and shallow is that if we really think about it? Everyday we are bombarded with images of all these beauty ideals of what we ‘should’ look like...but we don’t have to compare ourselves to these narrow standards of beauty ideals that society has created. There is more than ONE way to be beautiful🌟 . I find it empowering to think that hating myself and the way I look wont bring me anything. Instead I can accept it and make the most of what I’ve got! Do you even NOURISH BOWL??😉🌿💫 I will honestly never ever get sick of eating this way, or having my nourish bowls for lunch. WHY?? Because healthy food doesn’t have to be boring, relative, time consuming, bland or expensive🙏🏼 . All I do to make these is cool extras at dinner always (think extra rice, baked veggies, curry, chilli, hummus whatever ya choose to make!), OR make a big batch once a week ~ then simply add to lunch bowls, together with a rainbow of fresh veggies 🌽🍅🥕🥒🍆🥦 and some condiments like avo mash, mustard, apple cider vinegar, lemon etc. . THE RESULT: A tasty, wholesome, nutrient-dense meal that’s a little different every day + takes just a few minutes to throw together⚡️⚡️ . I’m thinking of writing up a whole post on Food-Prep + how to make eating healthy easy, convenient and still DELICIOUS. It’s so easy for us to neglect or forget about these things, thinking that it doesn’t really matter because it only affects ourselves. NOURISH bowl goodness🌿✨🤗 filled with a spicy tofu + mushroom sauté, baked sweet potato, fresh greens + homemade turmeric hummus (for that extra health 👌🏼) I get a lot of questions about my opinion on soy and whether or not I eat tofu. So I thought I’d share some insight: . FIRSTLY, when it comes to topics like this, my ‘opinion’ doesn’t matter. It’s the actual evidence from research that counts. For a number of years, I completely avoided soy (tofu, tempeh, soy milk, you name it) because of constantly hearing how bad it was. Fact is, those views were all ‘opinions’🤔 . When you look at the ACTUAL evidence, you will find that wholesome soy products (just ensure they’re non GMO🙏🏼) such as whole soy beans, tofu and tempeh are actual very ful + associated with a whole range of benefits + disease protective mechanisms. Full of nutrients, high quality plant protein, fibre and phytoestrogens which help hormonal balance💫 . They taste great, are super versatile + add great variety to my diet. Just a friendly reminder not to believe everything you hear about nutrition! . IMPORTANT: Exercise should be a CELEBRATION of what your body can do💛 That makes you feel good, empowered + proud of your achievements! Never a punishment for eating, or purely a means to lose weight. It should be a way to get your body stronger, healthier and able to do even MORE.⚡️⚡️ And the only way to do this is through: - Doing what you love and enjoy - Listen to your body - Fuelling your body🌿🙏🏼 . Today, I competed for the first time I have in over 6 years. It was absolutely magical. You might know that I used to be a competitive swimmer, training and competing was my everything. I felt lost and hollow for many years when my severe eating disorder cause my body to become so weak I was barely able to stand up on my own, let alone exercise. I trained incredibly hard, yet I had completely neglected fuelling myself. . Just like a car won’t run without petrol, our bodies won’t run without adequate nutrition and energy from what you eat. It took years of hard work, tears, frustration + many many set backs to get to the place I am now. I felt powerful, strong, HAPPY. I’m not where I want to be yet, and that’s okay, because I’m doing everything in my power to get myself there🌟 . Once again, today proved just how WORTH IT it is to put your health first, take a leap of courage, and never stop believing in yourself. Pasta is ALWAYS a good idea, right?😋✨ especially when it’s a great big bowl of my HOMEMADE PESTO, made with fresh basil from the garden + full of nutrient goodness🙌🏼🙌🏼 I’m stoked that one of my favourite pastas, @sanremopasta Gluten Free Penne, now comes in a much bigger 350g pack (but still costs the same price, woooh!!), so I definitely have a perfect excuse to make more pasta 🍝 You could honestly fool anyone with this penne, as it tastes just like traditional wheat pasta, despite being glutenfree ⚡️⚡️ . I was born in Switzerland + moved to Western Australia when I was 6. I speak Swiss, German + English🇨🇭🇦🇺 . 2. BLISS bowl😌🍓✨ with a secret ingredient of @preshafruit Cold Pressed Juice ~ it’s a game-changer🙌🏼 For me, Summer holidays means trying a new flavour combo in my smoothie bowl every single day. I’m yet to meet one I haven’t liked, but this was one of the BEST so far🌟 Instead of the usual water, coconut water or almond milk, I used Presha juice in Pink Lady Apple flavour + it gave the most refreshing, naturally sweet flavour👅 . I love this juice and often use it to treat my low blood sugars, because it’s 100% pure fruit, free of added sugar or anything artificial + hasn’t been damaged by heat (so all that nutrient goodness is still there!).
