GUT GUILT \\ without a doubt, one of the most challenging aspects of healing chronic illness - especially when it includes a spattering of severe digestive ailments, as so many do (it's where almost all disease begins) - is walking the line between anti-inflammatory eating and diet-induced stress. . . One of THE most significant lessons I have learned over the past 2+ years of attempting to heal is that food is not the be-all-end-all, and very rarely does strict adherence to any one specific way of eating heal everyone - or dare I say it, anyone. . . Bioindividuality is an important component of this, as two people with the same chronic conditions will not respond the same way to any one way of eating. Me, currently drowning in bone broth. inovermyhead 🙋🏽 . . . But really, I'm hanging in there. Day 2 of my (potentially) 5 day fast was definitely more challenging than the first. This afternoon my drowsiness was solid, but my go-to Tri-Salts picked me up. I went to see my lymphatic therapist after work, and she could sense that my body is going through a major detox and my liver is weak (what's new 🙄; 👉🏽 upping my liver support even more now!) ... but that my belly was the least swollen that it's ever been! This might be me ALL WEEK LONG. I start a 5-day bone broth fast tomorrow as recommended by my doctor in an attempt to heal my gut and make our attempts to get my chronic and elusive SIBO under control more effective. . Judging by the line, so does the rest of the business district. So many food sensitivity-friendly options, responsibly-sourced proteins and paleo-compliant sauces ... not to mention an infused water bar. . 🥕 currently taking applications for lunch dates 😉

A promised peek at some of my nontoxicbeauty essentials: @redmondclay Earthpaste (fav tox-free toothpaste ... sometimes I mix in activated charcoal for added whitening), my copper tongue scraper (tongue scraping is one of those crazy things that improves digestion, strengthens immunity and increases the strength of your tastebuds ... all while removing and bacteria from your mouth!), and an @izola bamboo toothbrush that reminds you when it's time to toss! . What you put in your mouth matters just as much as what you put in your stomach. Toothpaste is one of the worst offenders when it comes to nasty ingredients, containing toxic and endocrine disrupting chemicals. Certain brands even contain triclosan, which is so bad for your microbiome that it's been banned from hand soap! Even when purchasing "natural" toothpastes, avoid ingredients like fluoride (thyroid kryptonite) and carrageenan (a stabilizer that messes with your hormones and agitates your digestive tract). . Not pictured: the floss (a bedtime necessity 👉🏽make sure it happens at least once a day!)

What's the easiest, frothiest nut milk to make? Hemp milk! ALL you need is a blender, hemp seeds and water. I like to use 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds for one cup of water; if you want it even thicker use 3. Blend for about 30 seconds until you don't see any more seeds! _______________________ ___________________________ . use this creamy milk as a base for both my tea lattes and smoothies. Hemp seeds are an excellent source of protein, trace minerals, fiber and essential fatty acids. It's also less inflammatory than tree but and soy milks, so it's perfect for those with digestive issues. You can purchase hemp milk in the grocery store, but it's full of nasty stabilizers and fillers. As you can see, making your own is just as easy, and probably less expensive!

SQUAD GOALS 🥒⭐️🍉🍋🍍🌿 \\ fbf to mornings and juice and all things Hawaiian with my fav squad, my family. Five days after vacation, I can't decide if it's the islands I miss more, or just them [...with @kauaijuiceco being the third runner up] -------------------------- juice or not to juice? Juice. While it should in no way be a meal replacement or your sole form of nourishment, juicing is highly beneficial. With the fiber stripped away, your body is able to quickly absorb significant amounts of nutrients that would otherwise pass though the digestive tract unabsorbed when your system has to break down whole food. Just make sure you're juicing primarily vegetables, not fruits, as fruit juice = sugar. If you do add fruits, Hawaiian fruits like pineapple and star fruit are solid choices, as they're both low in glucose and have antifungal properties that help to kill off bad bugs in the gut. squadgoals juicing
