After teaching 4 classes before many of you got up today, I’m now back in bed 🤣 - or at least on it. Writing about exercise ... in possibly the most un-ergonomic position ever, though somehow being surrounded by billowy layers of organic bedding and cozy flannel sheets on a chilly Saturday afternoon provides a layer of comfort that just can’t be found in a chair. . . On a side note, it’s probably a good thing I have dinner plans or I’d be tempted to never abandon this perch. Say hello to my favorite any-time-of-day healthiest treat ever: baby Okinawan sweet potatoes with @paschachocolate 100% pure chocolate chips, roasted in sea salt and 🥑 oil. . . . I order these little spuds in bulk from Hawaii ... they’re bite-sized and bake really quickly at 425. Toss in the avo oil and sea salt, roast for 20 minutes, slice open white hot and insert Pascha chips, then press firmly closed so that the crispy skin breaks a bit and the potatoes flatten like a mini sandwich [taking sweetpotatotoast 🍠 to a whole new level...]. . . . Sometimes I drizzle a little olive oil over the top upon serving to add an extra dose of healthyfat to increase my body’s absorption of the purple potato’s abundant antioxidant [I’ve mentioned this before, but they have 150% more antioxidants than blueberries, ounce for ounce!]. The sweetness of the potatoes eliminates the need for any sweetness in the chocolate - if you haven’t tried Pascha’s 100% cacao chips, they’re so velvety smooth you won’t miss the sugar, I promise. PERFECTING MY CRAFT \\ when training to teach something new, my method of perfecting my craft has always been to write out - word for word - an entire class’s discourse. Cues, breath, technique, refinement ... literally, all of it, in sentence form. It’s probably the writer in me; definitely the perfectionist in me; and yes, it’s a little crazy, but it works. I used to spend hours wandering the sidewalks in my ‘hood and pacing circles around my kitchen island, reading aloud so that I would hear and absorb the content of the words coming out of my mouth. It wasn’t to begin robotically teaching classes (I can most definitely say I never actually taught the formats I’d written out), but rather to so deeply immerse myself in the language and essence of what I was doing that it would become second nature to me, and the words I was speaking would flow freely so I would be able to divert my energy away from thinking about what I was saying and into the experience I was orchestrating. . . All this to say, it requires significant passion (and a bit of obsession) to pour so fully into something like this. It takes a LOVE for what you are doing and a burning desire to be exceptionally good at it. You may end up with ten things like this over the course of your lifetime, or you may end up with one. You likely have yet to find it, because you’re likely a lot like me - caught in the millennial struggle of being 30-something and on many days feeling like life is already passing you by. . . Chin up. It hasn’t. Keep wandering. Keep exploring. Keep searching for what sets your soul on fire. That thing that, in the words of Maya Angelou, bulldozes a path down the center of your mind. It will come, and when it does, you’ll know it. You’ll become a little obsessed, a little crazy. And you’ll want nothing more than to perfect your craft. thursdaythoughts

When we hold onto guilt, shame, and frustration, our bodies take the cue and begin to stop letting go, too. The thyroid slows, disrupting hormones. This weekend started with a blast of “fall-ish” weather, but in true Dallas fashion, had returned to high 70s and sunny by late morning today. latergramming the delicious salad I enjoyed at Jose on Lovers yesterday afternoon, midway through the @aiadallas Tour of Homes. . . Because the most perfect of days always involve my favorite things: fresh produce and inspiring architecture. . . On my plate: the La Familia salad - yellow and red cherry tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, parsley and cilantro in with olive oil and lime. I love it when eating clean while eating out is this easy 🙌🏽! Starting Saturday with a clean page and clean juice 🌱 . . Straight celery juice on an empty stomach is a powerful way to heal and activate digestion. I’ve been juicing this simple veggie daily and am seeing results. Celery can be overpowering in green juices, but on its own it’s quite mild and refreshing.

Who should have more P A P A Y A in their diets? Everyone(!), but especially those with gut probs. Why? For starters, the papaya gets its name from the enzyme papain, essential at breaking down protein, especially from meat. If you have any type of chronic motility issue, it’s likely you also have low stomach acid, so the enzymes help to make up for the absence of the acid. Papaya is also loaded with Vitamin C (400% of your daily recommendation in one serving!), an especially nourishing vitamin to soothe and heal a damaged digestive tract. T R I P H A L A \\ a nourisher of the digestive tract, this little-tea-that-could cleanses and detoxifies as it restores and rebalances. My younger self saw healthy fat as the six or seven walnuts I sprinkled over my kale salad everyday, which led to years of an alarmingly low BMI and non-existent cycles, eventually **contributing to the crashing of my thyroid, my hormones and ultimately, my digestive tract. . HBD to this kid. His typical day at the office includes diving for sharks, scaling cliffs, and flying an airplane over an island paradise. Fresh roasted pumpkin, Japanese sweet potato (this gives it velvety texture and sweetness, no sugars necessary!), adaptogenic tonic herbs astragalus and he shou wu from my fav source @sunpotion, heart-healthy cinnamon, cardamom, anti-inflammatory turmeric, sea salt, @vitalproteins collagen peptides for glowing skin, added protein and a healthy gut, and a generous helping of ghee for healthy fats to increase absorption of all this nutrient-dense and immunity-boosting goodness. . .
