We're one week in to the Choice Hotels competition to find Australia's 'Next Top Instagrammer' and we have so many amazing entries already! For those that don't know what it is, we are genuinely giving a kick start to someone's career to work in the travel industry. From the entrants there will be 20 finalists that win a weekend away 'working' at a Choice Hotel property in Australia and they'll all receive an online (live) workshop with me on creating branded content. The grand winner is judged from the twenty finalists and will win a weekend mentoring Instagram trip with me. To enter follow @Choice_Hotels_Au and click the link on my profile to write why you want to win in 25 words or less. As I'm a judge I'll tell you that I love originality and flattery. 😂😂😂 ChoiceTravelGrammer2017 Sp

Okay, so I'm posting another basalt shot. Those that know me know that I love basalt and it's become such a running joke now, but truly I love the way that I feel when I'm in volcanic regions. Is that weird? There's a strange energy and power in the air. Anyway Matt very cautiously crossed the causeway at Fingal for me on the low tide for this shot and I'm grateful because it was a gorgeous sunrise. If you ever want to attempt this just be really careful, do it on low tides with small swell and watch out for rogue waves. Xx @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

Have you ever woken up at 3:20AM to photograph a sunrise? Well I have and it did not end up how we all hoped. Lol. By now you probably know that Jewels and I aren't the most organized of photographers but when we have Matt Donovan on our trips everything goes according to plan, hence the very early wake up. We were to photograph sunrise from the Pinnacles, a staggering perspective over the Tweed Valley and Mount Wollumbin. 😍 However, after driving for one hour, we realized the road to get out was temporarily closed and we couldn't proceed with our well researched and perfect plan! 😏 Luckily Jewels and I were able to school Matt and Mads in OUR style of shooting. It involved this: driving frantically to a new perspective, sitting in the car playing on our phones because it was too early, getting too absorbed in our phones and nearly missing dawn light, deciding half way through sunrise to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, literally stopping and shooting in half a dozen places along the side of the road and nearly giving ourselves heart attacks. And THAT is the way to snap some bangers for Instagram! 😂😂😂 @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

Good morning! Does this shot look tranquil and delightful to you? Well I can tell you there was some classic 'JewLau' chaos going on behind the scenes with Jewels instructed to run down to Dreamtime Beach while I shot her from the cliffs. Due to the distance between us Jewels basically just danced around for 20 mins and I shot 200 frames. 💃🏼📷😂 Dreamtime beach is just down from Fingal, making the whole area just so gorgeous and so special. @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

If there is one tourism operator that I would recommend in the Northern Rivers it would be Mount Warning Tours in Tumbulgum, we were surprised and delighted with our morning with them. Firstly we were met with a special introduction to local restaurant 'House of Gabriel' who made us barista coffee and sent us off for our sunrise cruise with bircher muesli and home made banana bread. Then we enjoyed a slow, misty ride down the Tweed river, a fun filled kayak (😳) and finally breakfast on an old huon pine river ferry. Everything was considered, the team genuinely love the destination they work in and the river is teaming with history and life. @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

Has anyone ever seen a fog bow? It's like a rainbow only it's made from fog and we also know them as white rainbows! When a car full of instagrammers drives through the Tweed Valley on a foggy/ fog bow morning can you picture the chaos that ensues? This is my favorite photo even though we didn't manage to get Jewels into position for a shot in the bow. Prior to that we were running around in farmers fields like absolutely crazy people, slamming the brakes on the car to catch a driveway bathed in light rays and just genuinely enjoying the experience. I'm going to geotag this shot with the property we stayed at because it was absolutely delightful and a great base to explore the region. Morning! I've finally got a photo to share of the famous, iconic, glorious Mt Wollumbin (aka Mt Warning) I love the mountains at the best of times but I especially love Wollumbin because of its earlier life as a volcano and because it was responsible for the glorious basalt formations down at Fingal. Not many people know this but it's actually culturally insensitive to climb Wollumbin because of its history, the Bundjalung people used the mountain for important ceremonies and initiation rites. I've climbed myself when I was in school and wished I had known that. We got the best views in the area at Crams Farm Reserve and were also blessed with the best sunset in months on this afternoon. 🔥❤️😍💥 @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

Good morning everyone! This was one of my favorite places in the Northern Rivers, Crams Farm Reserve. We visited 3 times all up and each time found something different to explore. It was actually Matt D who photographed this tree first but the 'JewLau' had to have a go too. (JewLau is our Jewels/ Lauren collaboration hehe) For those that have never visited this part of the world it's hard to explain what it's like because there's so much energy and positive vibes in the area. The entire Tweed Valley was formed by a volcanic eruption by an ancient shield volcano. Mount Wollumbin (this is the indigenous name, you might know it as Mount Warning) is the central volcanic remnant and an extremely sacred area to the Bundjalung people. Crams Farm has excellent views of Mount Wollumbin and a peaceful, yet charged, energy. ⚡️🌟💥 @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

At last! I finally got my butt down to Fingal to shoot and it took a job to get me there! Now that I know the gloriousness of it all I swear I am going back regularly. I LOVE BASALT! This is our Aussie basalt causeway, formed from volcanic activity eons ago. Fingal is a delightful little spot to spend time at with strong spiritual vibes and history. Whilst shooting here we also saw whales off Cook Island, pods of dolphins, surfers and paddle boarders and my favorite type of wave; splash backs! 🐋🐬🌊 @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

I've been very busy in New South Wales this month, enjoying loads of places! I'm now in the Northern Rivers checking out some of the regions that were affected by flooding earlier this year. One of the best parts of my job is doing work like this, supporting regional areas and operators. Our first little treat was heading out to Cook Island with Watersports Guru. Cook Island is a small island about 600m off Fingal that was originally formed by volcanic activity in the area. The island is a marine reserve and home to loads of species including Green Sea Turtles. This was a little fella but I also saw a couple of the biggest turtles I've ever seen in my life during our two hour snorkel and they are so tame and so accustomed to chilling with swimmers. I'm definitely heading back out some time over summer, this is so close to my own backyard. 🐠🐟🐬🦈🐋🦐 @VisitNSW NewSouthWales Sp

What a day!! Acwa (Australia's Coastal Wilderness Adventures) took us out for a snorkel on the remote coastlines of Ben Boyd National Park. Before you ask, "isn't it freezing" let me tell you that it was BUT the team had all the right gear and I only felt cold for a minute as I was getting in. It's hard to describe what it's like being in pristine waters like this at this time of year and no photos can do it justice. There were forests of kelp, sea life everywhere and our guide caught two abalone AND a massive lobster with his bare hands! Imagine that? You're a bit hungry so you head out for a snorkel and collect dinner from the sea, I was awed. I'd really recommend you check these guys out, true blue salt of the earth Aussie operators. Finally a non aerial shot! Haha. And please don't zoom in to closely to this one because it's not as sharp as I'd like, although I'm learning to ease up on my personal pixel peeping tendencies because I still think it's a good shot. So, who knew how many whales there are down this way? Um, there's basically millions! I did two whale watching tours on the Sapphire Coast, one with Cat Balou cruises in Eden and one with Merimbula Marina in Merimbula. The Eden cruise was on a calm still day with lazy whales floating around beside the boat and probably two dozen whales having a feed. (Did you know that Eden is one of only a couple of places in the world where you can witness whales feeding outside of Antarctica? 🐋🐳) The other cruise, this cruise, was on high seas with water and wind howling everywhere, hence the less than sharp shot. 🙊🙊 BUT, on the rough days when everyone wants to puke, that's when the whales love to breach! 😩😩🤢🤢 So, my deduction is ... all whale watching is totally awesome and you should do it all but don't puke. 😀 @SapphireCoastNSW Unspoilt Sp

Good morning! I'm loving aerial shots so much right now that I'm almost (almost) considering getting a drone. I shot this from a plane cruising over Merimbula and Eden and to me I love the challenge that comes with shooting in difficult circumstances. Battling a flapping temperamental window, dealing with high speeds and camera shake, managing the elements and keeping your body cool or warm in an open cockpit all the while feeling slightly nauseous due to a camera being jammed against your face ... by the time you get a shot you just really feel like you've EARNED it, you know? A drone on the other hand looks so EASY!!! 😩😩😩 What is wrong with my brain where I associate hard work with better images when it's patently not connected? So, should I get a drone? Lol. Good morning! Well I couldn't share a photo of Horse Head rock without sharing one of Camel Rock, since traditionally people visit both. Camel rock is the easiest to access, visible from the beach in Bermagui (and sign posted). Horse Head rock is a little trickier, requiring a 10-15 minute scramble over the rocks and only accessible on a low tide. (Unless you're really up for a hike/ swim 🙊) We got lucky with low tides and nice light on our visit but most people allow a couple of days in Bermagui to enjoy these sites before heading further south to Merimbula and Eden. I personally think Horse Head looks way more like a horse than Camel looks like a camel. 😂🐴🐫❤️ @SapphireCoastNSW Unspoilt Sp

It was a super low tide and still a little sketchy but I noticed something on my way back, the rocks were absolutely teaming with amazing shells. I've actually never seen so many pristine, whole shells on a beach like this. Of course I had to start a collection for a photo but I did leave them all behind like a responsible adult. Okay, so this is so not my best work but I wanted to share a story and this is the photo to the story. See those tiny little lumps on the rocks? Those are seals! I'm still getting used to my underwater housing and I decided to pack just the port for my fisheye lens so, although I look far away in this shot, I was actually only 6 meters away. (Lesson number 1: select the right equipment) Once I finally got a shot in focus I realized that the ocean floor was out of focus (Lesson number 2: check your depth of field 😂). Deciding that I needed to get even closer for a better shot I edged up to the rocks only for the seals to 'en masse' start barking at me and launch into the water by their dozens! Have you ever had dozens of barking seals launching off rocks at you? Well, now I have, and you know what? I was grinning so much I didn't even get a photo. So yeah, if you're ever feeling like a bit of a hot mess don't worry, ... none of us really have it together. 😂😂 @Eurobodalla Unspoilt Sp

And this is Montague Island! On seal swim day part of my tour consisted of a tour of the island with ranger-on-duty Shane and what an eye-opening experience. You guys have no idea how much work our national parks do to preserve important places like this. Home to five species of sea birds as well as seals and penguins, this place blew my mind. And I also learned that in October seagulls come here to have their babies in the thousands. Have you ever seen a baby seagull? They're literally the cutest things alive! Interestingly there is a lighthouse keepers house on the island (the original) that can be hired out and it sleeps like 15 people. I am legitimately thinking of coming down to stay in October 2018, should I do like a photography tour or something? Think wine, cheese, 360° views, more baby seagulls than you can poke a stick at and the company of only one other person, the lone ranger. (And me, hehe) @Eurobodalla Unspoilt Sp

OMG! So, this happened. Let me explain ... When coming into Eurobodalla I had just one request for my itinerary, to visit Birdland Animal Park. I had dropped in on a previous visit and fallen in love with this little, unassuming sanctuary in Bateman's Bay and I wanted a chance to go and learn more. As a lot of people know I am passionate about Australian wildlife and conservation and I respect the hell out of organizations that protect our precious local animals. This is a tiny baby wombat and her mum was hit by a car. Luckily a good samaritan got her to Birdland and carer Jodie took her under her wing, a huge responsibility. I want to disclose that members of the public won't have access to little rescues like this girl but your entry ticket will help keep this place going and help the team rescue more babies like this. She's so new that she doesn't have a name yet, I think we should call her Lauren 🙊🙊😂. @Eurobodalla Sp

Mystical landscapes ... this was my first morning in Eurobodalla and I woke up in my very cosy bed at the wonderful Bower House before throwing on some clothes and heading out. Well, you can imagine my shock to find the temperature was 3°C! 😱😱 I was definitely not expecting that. As I wrapped my mind around the temperature and the time (5:30 AM) I started to scout for a sunrise location and realized that the cold weather was producing the most magical sea mist, which was literally rolling in from the sand. A perfect lesson that every cloud has a silver lining. I find waking up at 5:00 AM in the cold about as appetizing as most of you but if I hadn't done it I wouldn't have been out shooting moments like this. After the latest break I've had from my camera I really needed some magic, what an awesome morning. 💛☀️🔥 @Eurobodalla Sp

I'll never forget the shock of cold as I plunged into the waters off Montague Island! On previous, similar, tours around the world I've been decked out in thick winter wetsuits with all the extras, but they build them tough down south! I was handed a short summer wetsuit, a snorkel and a few mins of instruction before I was getting a shove from the deckie into the chilly waters. (A literal shove, I told him to! 😂) And you know what? I wouldn't have had it any other way. I was cold, sure, but within minutes there were dozens of inquisitive seals spinning below me and I was one of only two people in the water. This was one of the most special experiences of my life and it happened without fanfare, just a small crew smiling from the boat. Thanks to Narooma Charters for my first seal swim! First impressions: Eurobodalla region is a very well kept secret, at least I'd never heard of this area! I've been on a Kayaking oyster tour, because this is one of the biggest regions for oysters in Australia. I've been to a wildlife sanctuary and learned about the amazing work being done by wildlife caretakers in the area. I've been to a rock shaped like Australia, a 'secret' island packed with seals and penguins (that you can STAY ON) and yesterday afternoon I went swimming with seals. And the best bit? I'm not sharing it with a thousand other people. 😜😜 Lot's to come! @Eurobodalla Sp
